What is EPM and how does a horse get it?
EPM is a degenerating neurological disease caused by an inflammation of the brain stem. Resulting symptoms include poor coordination, muscle loss, loss of appetite or loss of performance level. Caused by a protozoan parasite found in opossum droppings, horses ingest the parasite in contaminated hay, grain or pastures.
