“I can't believe Ashton is still alive! After 10-12 weeks of what started as intermittent colics and progressed to unrelenting continuous discomfort and suffering, Assure® and Assure Plus® ended his pain. If not for these two products I am sure that I would not have my jumper with me today.
I purchased Ashton from a ranch in Arizona and after owning him for only a short time, he began to exhibit mild signs of colic. During his first few episodes of colic the pain would come and go, and it was mild enough that a bit of hand walking was all that it took for him to feel better. A couple of months later I found myself at a horse show with Ashton severely colicing and this time he required intense medical treatment. His pain was so severe that I wondered if he would live through it. Finally, his pain subsided and he and I were able to travel home without further incident. At this point I started to get a bit worried about him, but thought that it must be just an isolated incident and that the stress of the show probably caused some upset to his system. Upon returning to Colorado, life was good and our training resumed. Little did I suspect that this was just the tip of the iceberg and that my real nightmare was yet to come.
Soon after returning home Ashton began to colic again, but this time things were different. Now the low level discomfort seemed to never leave, and although he had good days and bad days walking him around and occasional use of Banamine seemed to make him more comfortable. I agonized for 4-5 more weeks, not riding him but also not knowing what to do with him, other than to try to keep him comfortable. Although I thought of calling my regular veterinarian, I believed that there was little that could be done since the symptoms were mild and intermittent. But as time proceeded Ashton's overall condition and health seemed to be failing.
Then one day the colic was much worse than normal, and although he was given Banamine, the pain just kept getting worse. I called my regular veterinarian and he came out to examine and treat Ashton. After discussing the history, he tested for sand in Ashton's feces but could not find any. Ashton improved after treatment, but by the next day was just as painful again. My veterinarian returned and thought that Ashton might have a displacement of his colon, but also mentioned intestinal stones and sand accumulation again. After some discussion and the decision that we could not afford to send him to a referral hospital for possible surgery, my veterinarian suggested Assure® and Assure Plus® as a possibility to improve intestinal health and remove sand or a small stone. The next day I decided to try the products.
But it was not quite that simple. By the next day Ashton had decided that laying down was a good way to alleviate his pain. He stopped eating, well he barely ate, and he spent at least 50% of his time lying on his side. So for two days, I struggled to get him to eat the Assure® and Assure Plus®, but it certainly wasn't easy and it didn't make a bit of difference to Ashton’s comfort. So I stopped forcing him to eat the products. Ashton remained uncomfortable every day, still barely eating and each day spending more and more time lying down, and now groaning a bit. Every day I wondered how long he could go on like that. Then about 10 days after the first attempt with the Assure® products, I ran into another veterinarian within the same practice. He heard about Ashton's original treatment by his colleague and inquired as to how he had been doing. When I told him of Ashton's current condition, the full history, my inability to afford further treatment and my failed attempt with Assure® and Assure Plus®, he looked quite concerned, maybe even shocked. He paused a bit, but then said in a rhetorical fashion, ‘Shalaine, do you want your horse to live?’ He quickly followed with, ‘of course you do, so you have to do something.’ After discussing diagnostic and therapeutic options and their costs he finally said to me, ‘you already own the Assure® and Assure Plus® so why not just force him to eat them twice each day, maybe they will help, and they certainly can't hurt!’
Well, after thinking it over I realized that I had already bought the products and I originally thought it was worth a try, so why not. That evening I began my attempts to get Ashton to eat the Assure®. While he laid in pain I worked with feed pans and hand feeding to get him to eat the Assure Plus® and Assure® I just syringed into his mouth. I persisted with the feeding for 5 days. By day three he did seem to have more of an appetite and on day six I had a big surprise: Ashton spent the whole day on his feet, he looked brighter and like he might even want to live. I continued on the two products over the next week and other than one day where he didn’t look quite right, his attitude and disposition kept improving. By the end of the second week while still on the Assure® Program, he looked well and was back to his old self. As a matter of fact, he looked better than I had seen him in many months.
He is back in work now and he looks and feels better than I have ever seen him. He is still on The Assure System® and will be for the rest of his life. It was easy for me to tell my story since I truly believe that without his Assure® products, Ashton would not be alive today. Thank you, Arenus® Performance, for saving my jumper!”

"Although I always figured my three horses were picking up sand as they ate every day, I never figured it would be enough to cause major problems since none of them had ever coliced on us before. That all changed when we moved about a year ago to an area that is very dry and filled with sand and rocks. Then one day about a month ago, my 2 year old Fresian Thoroughbred, Mr. Pibb, definitely wasn’t feeling right. When my regular veterinarian came out to see him, sand could be heard in all four quadrants, and he had a displacement of his large colon.
We were advised to try Assure® and Assure Plus®, and we went to pick some up right away. We immediately put all three of our horses on the Assure Plus®, and Mr. Pibb also got the Assure®. In the meantime though, Mr. Pibb began to feel worse. Now he was down and pawing the ground, and he was having projectile diarrhea! We had our veterinarian back out, and we did sand tests on all three of our horses. The test on Mr. Pibb came back with large amounts of sand and pebbles in his feces, and our other horse, Klondike, came up positive for sand as well.
After about 3 or 4 days of Mr. Pibb being on the Assure® and Assure Plus®, I began to notice some changes. He was feeling like his old self again, and the projectile diarrhea was no more. I also noticed that in his manure now there were some rocks the size of lima beans! This is when I felt confident that the rocks and sand inside of him were being gathered up and coming out in his manure, rather than staying in there and making him uncomfortable like before.
After seeing the amount of sand and the size of rocks that my horses have been ingesting, I would definitely encourage other people to try these products. The Assure® combined with the Assure Plus® worked really well together in a short amount of time to not only clear out the sand and rocks that were inside of Mr. Pibb, but also clear up his diarrhea at the same time. I am very pleased with the outcome, and all three of my horses will continue on this program as a preventative measure for the future.”

Assure FAQs Q. What is the ASSURE SYSTEM®?
A. A combination of supplements designed to support overall equine gastrointestinal health and sand clearance. Supplement ASSURE®, ASSURE® HOOF or ASSURE® GUARD in the morning and ASSURE PLUS® in the evening.
Q. What is GST technology? A. GST (Gastrointestinal Stabilizing Technology) means using the right “delivery system” (granules or pellets) to ensure beneficial nutrients your horse needs actually reach the part of the digestive tract where they will be most useful. GST helps naturally maintain desired hindgut microflora by maintaining proper hindgut pH.
Q. I don’t live in an area with sand. Why would I use Assure Plus? A. Although you may not be living in an area known for sand, dirt also consists of sand and silt. Many horses are maintained on small acreages and eat off the ground. In these situations, it is common for horses to ingest dirt, sand and silt, even for horses maintained predominantly on grassy pastures.
Q. Can I feed Assure® to foals and growing horses? A. Yes, you can start feeding Assure® products as soon as foals begin eating grain. Directions: First 4 weeks- 1/4 scoop, continue to increase to 1/2 scoop until foal is 600-700 lbs then follow adult feeding directions.
Q. Can I feed Assure® Plus to foals and growing horses? A. Yes, you can start feeding Assure® Plus when foal is 3 weeks old. Directions: Foals 150-300 lbs - 2 oz daily; 300-500 lbs - 4 oz daily; 500-700 lbs - 6 oz daily; 700+ lbs - follow adult feeding directions.
